Professor Emeritus Dr Rene Verdonk obtained his medical degree in July 1971 at Gent State University in Belgium. He was Board certified in orthopaedic surgery in 1976 and presented his PhD thesis on Viable meniscal allografts in 1992. Since 1992 he was Full time Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and head of the department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Ghent University Hospital, De Pintelaan 185, B-9000 Gent (Belgium). He is emeritus professor since 01 10 2011.
In the course of his career he has been involved in the advancement of trauma surgery and in knee pathology and takes a special interest in cruciate and meniscal surgery. Currently, he is also involved in cartilage pathology and treatment.
He has published in many review Journals. He was Editor in Chief of the KSSTA journal (knee surgery and sports trauma and arthroscopy) and later became senior editor since 2013. He is a member of many scientific societies, such as the Belgian Society for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, of which he was President in 1991 – 1992. He is a founding member of BOTA (Belgian Orthopaedic Trauma Association).
He is Past President of ESSKA (president 1995-1996) and past chairman of the basic science committee. He is a member of the ISAKOS strategic planning committee and of the ISAKOS Education Committee. He is also a member of AAOS, and corresponding member of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA). He was nominated to the prestigious Hall of Fame of the AOSSM in 2011. During the recent meeting in Lyon in June 2015 he was awarded the prestigious honorary ISAKOS membership. ICRS ( the international cartilage research Society ) recognised him with the honorary membership in 2022.He is now an active consultant in the ULB Erasmus univ Hospital dept of orthopaedics and trauma (dir. M Jayankura ) involved in all aspect of knee pathology and treatment.

Prof. Dr Azhar Mahmood Merican is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at ALTY Hospital and visiting consultant to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, after more than two decades at University Malaya Medical Centre as lecturer/professor (1999–2021). He earned his MBBS (Southampton, 1992), MS (Orth) UM (1999), and a PhD plus Diploma in Clinical Orthopaedic Biomechanics from Imperial College London (2010). A former President of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (2018/2019) and the Malaysian Society for Hip & Knee Surgeons (2021/2023), he completed a joint-replacement fellowship in Australia (2003–2004). His highly cited research defines patellofemoral and tibiofemoral kinematics, lateral retinaculum anatomy/biomechanics, ACL reconstruction biomechanics, tibial slope geometry, and the effects of component rotation and patellar thickness in TKA—work published in AJSM, JBJS, CORR, KSSTA, J Orthop Res, and J Biomech. He continues clinical practice, research, and national leadership in knee and arthroplasty care.

Dr Anwar Samhari Mat Arshad currently is the only Consultant Rheumatologist and Pain Physician in the private hospital in the northern region of Malaysia. He received his basic medical degree from University of Malaya and subsequently trained in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology in the University Hospital of UKM, Kuala Lumpur. He was hand picked and awarded a prestigious National Scholarship to pursue MSc in Rheumatology in the University of Manchester,United Kingdom and obtained MRCP in 1997 from Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom. Subsequently he joined Ninewells Hospital, Dundee and Perth Royal Infirmary, Scotland for a higher specialist training in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. His major interests are treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Interventional Pain Management and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. Dr Anwar Arshad also is the first rheumatologist in Asia to qualify as Fellow of Interventional Pain Practitioner conferred by the World Institute of Pain in 2008 and previously served as Chair of Malaysian Chapter of World Institute of Pain. He is also the first rheumatologist in the South East Asia to get a formal accreditation in Ultrasound in Rheumatology by the American College of Rheumatology in 2012,recently he obtained CIPS qualification in 2015 the year CIPS exam was founded. He currently gives back serving as an Examiner for CIPS and FIPP examination worldwide. He also served as pervious Chair of MSK Ultrasound group of Asia-Pacific APLAR ( Asian College of Rheumatology). He lectured and conducted various workshops in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Interventional Pain Management extensively at the National and International level and regular trainer/speaker for musculoskeletal ultrasound in most of the Asian congress.
